Ageless Ali Shines As Pillars Triumph In Northwest Derby

Rabiu Ali scored his second goal in as many games as Kano Pillars made light work of Katsina United in the Northwest derby to notch up a first league win on Sunday.

The ageless 40-year-old who became the first player to score in nine consecutive seasons in the Nigeria Professional Football League since records began when he netted in the draw at Adamawa United on the opening weekend, scored Pillars’ second to get them off the mark for the season.

Sai Masu Gida had taken an early lead when David Ebuka put them ahead at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium after just seven minutes before Ali doubled the lead twenty minutes later.

Elsewhere on matchday two, Heartland FC remain in search of a first victory of the campaign as they fell to Nasarawa United who made it back-to-back wins for the season.

Heartland’s Shadrack Oghali had cancelled out Chinedu Ohanachom’s early opener but with the hosts in search of a winner, the visitors struck fifteen minutes from time through Adamu Hassan to leave Owerri with all three points.

Israel Abia’s goal on the hour mark was enough for Rangers to edge Akwa United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium for their first victory of the season and Sunshine Stars also recorded a maiden victory with a similar score against FC Ifeanyiubah with Timileyin Ogunniyi scoring the only goal of the encounter.

Warri Wolves rebounded from their opening day loss to MFM to record their first victory of the campaign against Adamawa United with Uche Ihuarulam scoring the winner in the 83rd minute.

In Uyo, home side Dakadda FC recovered from going behind to defeat Jigawa Golden Stars at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The visitors went ahead in the 25th minute through Mohammed Abubakar but the hosts struck back on the stroke of halftime with Aniekan Ekpe grabbing the equaliser before Solomon Chigozie completed the comeback in the second half.

At the Aper Aku Stadium, Martins Ossy scored the only goal of the game to give Lobi Stars their first win of the campaign with victory against MFM FC.
