African Champions Face Steel Roses in China

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face China’s female national team, Steel Roses in the opening game of the 18th edition of the China Invitational Tournament.

After leaving the shores of Nigeria from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport via an Egyptian aircraft, the African Champions touched down in the Guangdong Province of China on Tuesday and will train later today.

The four countries who will be partaking in the friendly tourney include Romania, Korea Republic, Nigeria and hosts China.

The tournament which will adopt a single-elimination instead of a single round-robin system for the first time will hold at the Meizhou Olympic Sports Centre from tomorrow, January 17 and will end Monday, January 21.

While Nigeria face China in the opening game, Romania and the Korea Republic will trade tackles in the other tie of the day. The winner of both ties will face each other in the final.

The friendly competition is meant to keep the current African Champions in shape ahead of the Women’s World Cup in France later this year in June.
