Adamawa Utd Coach Madugu Optimistic Of Turnaround For Bottom Club (AUDIO)

Adamawa United boss Justin Madugu is not giving up hope of engineering a reversal in fortunes for his seemingly doomed side who are bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Magunu’s wards suffered yet another loss at Heartland on Monday in the concluding fixture of matchday 19 to remain on twelve points and seven points from safety.

They have won just two matches all season with their last win coming on 7 March against Dakkada FC and have lost eleven times and drawn six games.

Unable to score or keep out goals, Adamawa United has the division’s worst goals difference of -17 having conceded 24 goals while scoring a paltry eight goals in 19 games.

That defensive shakiness cost them a point at Heartland where they drew level only to end up losing 2-1 after conceding two set-piece goals and it is an aspect Madugu believes his players will improve on when they resume from the two-week midseason break

“The two goals we conceded were from set-pieces and it was due to our error we’ll work on that,” he said following the loss in Owerri.

“We have noticed some of the lapses defensively we will work on that like you know we just resumed with the team last week and I’m impressed with the performance of the boys and I believe with time they will be able to do much better than we have seen today.”

Adamawa United are scheduled to host Heartland in their first fixture after the mid-season break and Magunu says the Naze Millionaires will see a much-improved side when they visit.

And despite being written off by many watchers, Magunu believes there is still time enough to halt their slide and begin a resurgence up the table in the second half of the season.

“We don’t have an option we have to work within the limited time available to us we will try as much as possible to see what we can do to get the team to a better shape than what we saw today given the two weeks break that we have,” he said.

“We are going to play them in the next match certainly the match plan will be different from what we just saw today. We’ll go back and continue working, it’s still [a] work in progress.”
