Ibom Angels striker Charity Reuben is back on top of the goalscorers chart for this season’s Nigeria Women Premier League after scoring her seventh and eighth goals in her side’s 4-0 thumping of FC Robo Queens on Wednesday at the Itam Sports Complex in Uyo.
Both Reuben and Emem Essien were guilty of missing chances in the first 10 minutes of the encounter before Reuben converted a lot penalty in the 21st minute to open scoring. Essien then made matters worse for their visitors from Lagos with her brace on the 28th and 43rd minutes.
Another penalty in the second half ensured Reuben’s brace as the Whyte Ogbonda-tutored side recorded the biggest win of matchday 12 – pending the outcome of Thursday’s games.
Still on Wednesday, it took a 90th minute strike from Aminat Yakubu to help Bayelsa Queens see off her former team Sunshine Queens at the Nembe City Stadium. Bayelsa Queens captain Joy Bokiri had failed to convert a penalty four minutes prior.
In group B, Polinus Ifeoma’s rebound off her spot kick in the 38th minute brought Confluence Queens back to winning ways.
The New Direction Queens who have had to endure a torrid second stanza of the season defeated Edo Queens 1-0 in Lokoja, ending a run of five games without a win.
Meanwhile Delta Queens extended their unbeaten run to five matches albeit dropping two points at home on Wednesday. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Pelican Stars courtesy of an 88th minute effort from Blessing Edoho which came nine minutes after Ijeoma Obi had put the hosts in front.
In Fofure however, the match between Adamawa Queens and Osun Babes was inconclusive at 2-1. Reports emanating from that match centre points to disruptive behaviour by fans of the home side as the reason the match was not concluded.
It is expected that proper investigation will be done soon by the league body to resolve the issue and sanction anyone found wanting.
