Leicester City duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and Abia Warriors defender Adekunle Adeleke were among the early arrivals to Nigeria’s camp on Sunday, ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

More players from the list of 30 invitees are expected to arrive on Monday, with training set to commence on Tuesday.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr inspected the playing surface of the Teslim Balogun Stadium at the weekend, where three three-time African champions, Nigeria, open their qualifying campaign against Liberia on 3 September.

Nigeria play Cape Verde at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde four days later.

Rohr expects to have a full squad for Liberia, but seven UK-based players will miss the match against Cape Verde as the country has been placed on the UK red list of coronavirus-plagued countries.

Seven extra players have been named as replacements for the clash against Cape Verde.
