2022 WCQ: Iheanacho’s Brace Lifts Eagles Past Lone Stars

Kelechi Iheanacho scored both goals as Nigeria got their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

The Leicester City ace put the Super Eagles ahead in the 22nd minute before controlling smartly and finishing beautifully beyond Liberia’s goalkeeper to extend Nigeria’s lead just before half time.

The victory puts Nigeria top of Group C ahead of Cape Verde and the Central African Republic who played out a stalemate earlier.

Nigeria take on Cape Verde next at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde on 7 September.
