2021 AFCON: Super Eagles Begin Qualification With Nervy Win Over Benin

The Super Eagles of Nigeria got their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign to a solid start with a 2-1 victory over the Squirrels of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday.

Victor Osimhen’s penalty in first-half added time and Samuel Kalu’s 63rd-minute strike wiped out Beninoise old warhorse Stephane Sessegnon’s shock 3rd-minute opener.

The Super Eagles move top of Group L above Sierra Leone and Lesotho who shared the spoils in Free Town after Kwame Quee 77th minute opener was cancelled out at the death by the South Africans. Benin occupy bottom place.

Nigeria next play Lesotho in Maseru on 17 November while Benin play host to Sierra Leone on the same day.
