2021 AFCON: Enyimba’s Anaemena Called Up To Super Eagles Squad As Musa, Iwobi, Ndidi Hit Camp

Enyimba defender Ifeanyi Anaemena has been called up to Super Eagles AFCON 2021 qualifying squad to face the Benin Republic and Lesotho as a late replacement for Bryan Idowu who misses out because of passport issues the team’s Twitter handle has announced.

Anaemena was in action for Enyimba at the weekend in the NPFL where he conceded a penalty and was sent off in the 1-1 draw at Adamawa United.

He has never played for the main team but featured for the home-based Super Eagles in the 2-0 win over Togo as they came up short in the 2020 CHAN qualifying tournament.

Meanwhile, the Uyo Le Meridien hotel camp of the Super Eagles continues to welcome more players with captain Ahmed Musa, Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi among the latest players to join the team.

Goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Maduka Okoye, defenders Jamilu Collins, Chidozie Awaziem, Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina and midfielder Ramon Azeez have also linked up with early arrivals Kenneth Omeruo and Samuel Kalu in Uyo.

Nigeria begin their 2021 AFCON qualifiers against the Squirrels Benin Republic at the Godwill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday, 13 November before flying to Materu for the encounter against the Crocodiles of Lesotho on Sunday, 17, November.

The Confederation of African Football has picked Senegalese official Issa Sy as referee for the match between Nigeria and the Benin Republic in Uyo.

Sy will be assisted by compatriots Nouha Bangoura (assistant referee 1), El Hadji Abdoul Aziz Gueye (assistant referee 2) and Fatou Thioune (fourth official) at the encounter scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, from 5pm.

Other matches in Group L will see Sierra Leone host Lesotho on 13 November before they travel to play the Benin Republic on 17 November.

The top two sides qualify automatically for the 2021 AFCON which will be held in Cameroon.
