2020 Olympics: Nigeria To Host 2nd Phase of Beach Volleyball Qualifiers

Nigeria will host the second phase of the Group C Confederation of African Volleyball Beach (CAVB) Olympic qualifiers for women the CAVB has announced.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics beach volleyball qualifying tournament will take place from 4-8 March 2020 at the Jabi Lake Beach, Abuja.

Nigeria will compete against Kenya, Cape Verde, Congo RDC and Zambia in the Group C qualifiers.

President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Musa Nimrod expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances of securing qualification at the end of the tournament especially with the added motivation of playing at home.

“The Federation is excited and encouraged to host the tournament and as you know, our women’s team is highly rated and ranked in Africa. So by God’s grace, the women’s team will win the ticket from Group C,” Nimrod said.

Head coach the team Francis Imoudu assured Nigerians of winning the ticket emphasising that the players are in top form to deliver having scaled through the first hurdle in Accra.

NVBF technical head Martin Melandi said the players will be invited to camp immediately after the end of the President Beach Volleyball tournament holding in Kaduna between 19-23 February 2020.
