2019 FIBA World Cup: Nigeria Coach Alex Nwora Announces D’Tigers Final Squad For China Showdown

Nigeria’s national men’s basketball team coach, Alex Nwora has put an end to the squad speculations as he announced the official D’tigers squad for 2019 FIBA World Cup billed for China after the Peak Invitational.

In a mix of youth and experience, Nwora named veterans like team captain Ike Diogu, Stanley Okoye, and Al-Farouq Aminu in his team for the world cup.

Nigeria, who were ranked eighth in the power rankings among the teams that qualified for the world cup, concluded preparations for the tournament on a high note after winning their first Peak Invitational following a slim victory over Montenegro.

Others who complete the 12-man squad are Vincent Nnamdi (Stockton Kings), Chimezie Metu (San Antonio Spurs), Ike Iroegbu (Science City, Germany), Michael Eric (Kirolbet Baskonia), Benjamin Uzoh (Caballeros de Culiacán), Zanna Talib (Hapoel SP Tel Aviv, Israel), Jordan Nwora (Louisville Cardinals), Joshua Okogie (Minnesota Timberwolves), and Udoh Ekpe (Utah Jazz).

D’Tigers have been labelled by pundits as favourites for a podium finish or at least a quarterfinal bow, after their eye-catching pre-World Cup exhibition games.

Nigeria will battle Argentina, South Korea, and Russia in Group B in Wuhan for a shot at the second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup which jumps off on Saturday, August 31st.
