2019 AFCON: Plateau United Defender and Former Sunderland Striker Make Benin Republic 23-man Squad

Plateau United defender Salomon Junior has been named in the Benin Republic squad for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Benin Republic head coach Michel Dussuyer named Plateau United defender Salomon Junior in his 23-man squad for the historic tournament in Egypt.

The former Bayelsa United captain has been pivotal for his Jos based club since joining in 2016.

Former Sunderland midfielder Stephane Sessegnon is also named in the squad despite being suspended for the opening game against four-time champions Ghana.

Sessegnon, the most capped Benin player accumulated yellow cards in the qualifiers but will be available to face Cameroun and Guinea Bissau in the subsequent fixtures.

The Squirrels are grouped alongside 2017 champions Cameroon, Ghana and Guinea Bissau with their opening game against the Black Stars at the Ismailia Stadium.
