2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Review (UEFA): Poland Become Sixth European Nation In Russia

Poland have qualified for next summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia after they defeated Montenegro 4-2 to secure top spot in Group E.

The country’s leading goalscorer Robert Lewandowski scored one of the goals as he helped his side join other European nations like Belgium, Germany, England, hosts Russia and Spain at the tournament.

Still in Group E, Denmark have sealed a playoff spot after finishing second behind Poland in the group. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen netted his eighth goal of the qualifiers in a 1-1 home draw against 10-man Romania.

Scotland missed out on a playoff spot in Group F on goal difference after they played a 2-2 draw at Slovenia. Gordon Strachan’s men started Matchday 10 in the playoff but the draw meant Slovakia leapfrogged them into the playoff spot with a 3-0 win over Malta at home.
