2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (CAF): Ghana Ends Disappointing Campaign With Draw

The Black Stars of Ghana put a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign to bed with a 1-1 draw against Russia-bound Egypt at home.

The Group E game, which was the final qualifier for both countries, came into life in the second half after a goalless first 45 minutes. The Egyptians took the lead with seventeen second half minutes gone courtesy Mahmoud Abdelrezak but they were pegged back two minutes later through Edwin Gyasi’s deflected strike. Both sides failed to add to their scoreline as they settled for a 1-1 draw.

In the other group game, Uganda finished in a respectable second place following a 1-1 draw with hosts and whipping boys Congo Brazzaville. The two goals were scored in the early parts of the first half as Milton Kerisa’s strike for Uganda  cancelled out Marvin Baudry’s opener.

Ghana 1-1 Egypt

Congo 1-1 Uganda
