2017/18 La Liga Fixtures: Holders Real Start Title Defence At Deportivo

Spanish champions Real Madrid will begin the defence of the league title they won last season at the Riazor against Deportivo La Coruna after the full fixture list for the 2017/18 season was revealed at the RFEF Las Rozas head-quarters on Friday morning.

Real Madrid will be guests of Deportivo La Coruna on the opening La Liga weekend slated for August 18/19/20 while arch rivals Barcelona welcome Real Betis to the Nou Camp in what would be Ernesto Valverde’s league debut as Barcelona manager.

In the pick of the other opening round games, 2013/14 champions Atletico Madrid will play newly promoted Catalan club Girona with UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualifier Sevilla hosting Espanyol at the Ramon Pizjuan Stadium in Seville.

The first el-clasico of the season is scheduled for the Santiago Bernebeu on the weekend of December 20 though that would likely change due to Madrid’s involvement in the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup. The return leg would be played on the weekend of May 6, 2018.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone will welcome rivals Real Madrid to their new home for the first time in the league on the weekend of November 19 with the return leg slated for the weekend of April 8/9/10.
