2017 U-17 World Cup Review: Mali Thrash Iraq To Secure Last Eight Spot As Spain Edge France In Huge Clash

West African side Mali are through to the quarterfinal at the tournament in India after they thrashed Iraq 5-1 in their last 16 game.

Lassane Ndiaye netted a brace to help his side to a dominant victory. He is now the joint leading scorer after the two goals took his tournament tally to five goals.

Mali will need to wait for the winner of the all-African match between Ghana and Niger Republic to determine their last eight opponents.

Spain produced an impressive comeback win by beating France 2-1 courtesy goals from Miranda and Abel Ruiz and will now play Iran for a spot in the semis.  Iran defeated Mexico by the same 2-1 scoreline.

England are also through after a nail biting penalty shootouts win over Japan after they had played a goalless draw. Both sides played out a goalless draw but the junior Three Lions held their nerves to win 5-3 on penalties thus setting up a last eight meeting with the United States.
