Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have won the 2017 Audi Cup pre-season tournament after they defeated Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after both sides had played 1-1 in regulation time.

Albanian youngster Keidi Bare gave Atletico a first half lead but Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino scored from the spot with seven minutes remaining to drag the Reds back into the game. Neither side could add to their tally paving the way for the dreaded penalty shootouts.

Reds skipper Jordan Henderson was the only player who failed to convert his penalty thus handing Diego Simeone’s team the title.

In the 3rd/4th place playoff match played earlier, hosts Bayern Munich continued their poor pre-season form with a 2-0 loss to Napoli courtesy goals from Khalilou Koulibaly and Emmanuele Giaccherini.
