2017 AITEO Cup: Holders Booted Out Despite Tornadoes Win

Defending champions FC IfeanyiUbah have crashed out of this year’s AITEO Cup after they lost out to opponents Niger Tornadoes despite a 1-0 home win in their 2nd leg semifinal clash.

With a 4-2 deficit from the first leg, the cup holders knew they had to score at least two unreplied goals to stand any chance of making a second successive final appearance. They however failed to get the goals needed as Godwin Obaje’s 85th minute goal from the spot proved to be a consolation for a 4-3 aggregate loss to the visitors.

Niger Tornadoes await the winner of the other semifinal tie between 2015 winners Akwa United and Sunshine Stars in Uyo on Sunday with the latter leading 1-0 from their home leg.
