South South representative, Rebecca Ekpeyong at the recently concluded Chevron Junior Invitational Masters in Lagos defeated Nigeria’s national junior champion Omolayo Bamidele in straight sets to win the title.

Rebecca went into the finals on the heels of an emotional and tensed semi-final victory over South West’s Omolade Aderemi in which she won 9 – 8 with just a single point after saving two match points on Saturday.

Ekpeyong, Rebecca’s father who watched on as the 16-year-old dominated proceedings all through both sets ran into the court with tears of joy, hugging his daughter after the game which ended 10-1, 10-4.

The Port Harcourt-based girl was equally awarded the trophy for the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament after clinching the title.
