Nigeria’s 46-year wait for a gold medal in the Men’s Football event of the African Games continues after the Flying Eagles suffered a 2-0 loss to Burkina Faso in the final of the 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

The Flying Eagles conceded twice in quick succession in a lacklustre first half at the Stade Moulay Hassan.

Both teams had played a 1-1 draw in the group stages and even though Paul Aigbogun’s charges rallied after the break, the Burkinabes held on as the Flying Eagles failed to find a way through their sturdy defence.

The Burkinabes held on to claim the victory and the gold medal while Nigeria who last won gold in 1973 settled for a third African Games silver medal.
