
Nigeria’s Raymond Ekevwo set a new personal best at the 12th African Games dipping below 10 seconds for the first time in his career to win gold in the men’s 100m with a time of 9.96s.
Ekevwo was joined on the podium by Eseoghene Usheoritse Itsekiri who came in third in a time of 10.02s. Ivorian Arthur Cisse claimed silver in a time of 9.97s.
A few minutes earlier, Joy Udo-Gabriel had missed out on a podium place in the women’s100m as her time of 11.44s earned her a fourth place finish in the finals.
Ivorian defending champion Marie Josee Ta Lou retained her the title she won at in 2015 as she coasted home in 11.09s (-1.2). Gambia’s Gina Bass ran a National Record of 11.13s to win Silver while Egypt’s Basant Hemida took Bronze in 11.31s.
Nigeria’s other representative in the women’s 100m final Aniekeme Alphonsus finished in last place with a time of 11.78s.
