Commonwealth gold-medalist and 9-time (consecutive) African champion Blessing Oborududu (68kg) has said she is ready to successfully defend the gold medal she won four years ago in Brazzaville, Congo, when the wrestling event of the 12th African Games gets underway in El Jadida, Morocco.
After an intensive camping period of over a month in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the wrestling team, which was unveiled to the media last week, will depart Nigeria for Morocco on Wednesday 21st August.
Speaking ahead of the Team’s departure, 30-year-old Oborududu told www.busybuddiesng.com she is confident that together with her teammates, the team will bring back glory to Nigeria.
“Preparation was good, and we are ready to go and compete in Morocco,” an optimistic Oborududu said.
“I bet you for the female team, we are 100% ready to wrestle.
“With God, the bible says ‘all things are possible’. So, I believe I will come back home with a gold medal to celebrate and to make Nigeria proud.”
Fighting in the 63kg category four years ago in Congo, Oborududu claimed gold at the expense of Cameroon’s Bothe Etane. In Morocco, the 2-time Olympian will be competing in the 68kg class, where she is unbeaten on the continent.
Wrestling is scheduled to take place from 28th to 30th August in El Jadida.
