Hosts Ghana have retained the WAFU Cup trophy after they defeated fierce rivals Nigeria 4-1 in the final match played at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Stephen Sarfo was the hero for the Black Stars as he netted a brace either side of halftime. Vincent Atinga and Winful Kwaku Cobbina got the other goals for Ghana who had the aforementioned Atinga sent off for two yellow cards. Kano Pillars star Rabiu Ali scored Nigeria’s consolation goal in added time.

In the 3rd/4th place playoff played earlier, Niger Republic defeated Benin Republic 2-1 to win third place at the 2017 WAFU Cup tournament.
